Monday morning as high tide approaches (9:00 am AK time or noon Central), I will paddle to the end of Taiya Inlet to the mouth of the Taiya River and then paddle/pull my canoe up the river hopefully a distance of about 10 miles. I've already been up the river 6 miles so I'm hoping to go a little further. I'd rather struggle by paddle now than walk as I've already blistered my feet from practise portages near town. From there I'll work my way up and over the pass by foot with a better understanding now of what the Stampeders did in 1898 (I love the historic picture above as the Stampeders labored to get over the Pass).
