We were happy to receive a phone call from Bob last week! He was able to call us, his dad, and one of his brothers while in Petersburg. He has been very wet, but is still paddling on. It had rained for a week straight so he had some chilly days and nights. He was also battling rough waters and wind. He told us he is feeling great. He realized he wasn't eating enough fat and protein so while in town he stocked up on foods high in these ingredients. He picked up some bacon, sausage, butter, and is gaining weight.
Bob was pretty chatty and had an interesting story for us to share.
If you all remember back from a couple of weeks ago, there was night where Bob paddled late into the night. It turned out, this was not part of his plan. He made a few attempts early that evening to stop and set up camp but was not able to. It turned out the shoreline was high cliffs and he was not able to find accessible shore. He thought he was going to have to paddle through the night until he found shore. Anyway, he was paddling along and he literally "ran into" a dock. He was shocked. It was the middle of the night, in the middle of open water, and he hit a dock. It was dark out so he decided to just make camp on the dock. He got a good night's sleep and when he woke up, he made an interesting discovery. The dock led to a staircase, which led to a cabin. Bob hiked up to the cabin and to his luck, it was unlocked. Bob was able to build a fire and dry out for the day after a long night of paddling. He was thankful to the owners of the cabin who had left it unlocked.
After our last posting, we received a picture from Will from Wrangell Island. We are thankful to know people are watching out for Bob along the way and we love hearing your "Bob" stories. As we keep you updated, we would love any updates from others who meet Bob along the way. Below is a picture of Bob and Will. As you can see from this picture and the pictures from Bob himself, he is very happy and staying healthy.
Thanks again to all of Bob's followers! We hope to hear from Bob soon and have another update from his exciting adventure. Until next time...

What will probably be the easiest is now about done. Report from Skagway states lots of extra new snow on the pass and three foot of ice still on the first lake he will hit. Folks are watching and pulling for Bob but nature needs to get on the bandwagon.

I am very much enjoying this blog and following Bob's adventures. We have had a very cold spring this year and I hope Bob continues to have good luck as he makes his way north. I am friends with Jennifer and she turned me onto her cousin's journey. I am a forever Alaskan and very impressed with Bob's trip. Good luck to him all the way!!! Deb
